Boatman licences

If you would like to hire out boats or crafts, you will need to apply for a boatman licence.

To apply for a licence, please download and complete our boatman licence application form

The cost of this application is £23.50.

Please note that you may also need a separate licence for pleasure boats.

Pleasure boat licences

A pleasure boat licence in this district must be applied for if:

  • the pleasure boat is for no more than 12 passengers
  • the boat is operating within the waters of the River Orwell and Stour (please note that we only issue licences for a certain part of the River Stour. For more information, please contact us before you apply)
  • the boat is based within the district

The cost for this licence is £46 (not including surveyor fees).
