UK parliamentary general election

The next UK parliamentary general election will take place on Thursday 4 July 2024.

All electors who are currently registered and eligible to vote will receive a poll card before polling day, which will let you know where you need to cast your vote.

On polling day, polls will be open from 7am to 10pm.

Key dates and deadlines for electors

The table below details key dates and deadlines for the upcoming general election.

Date Action Tuesday 18 June Deadline (by 11:59pm) to register to vote (if you're not already registered) Wednesday 19 June Deadline (by 5pm) for new applications to vote by post, or by postal proxy.  Wednesday 19 June Deadline (by 5pm) to make changes to, or to cancel existing postal vote arrangements. From Friday 21 June Postal votes (1st batch) issued ~ all Postal Vote applications received and determined before 12:00pm on Friday 31 May will be included in this issue From Wednesday 26 June Postal votes (2nd batch) issued ~ all Postal Vote applications received and determined between 12:01pm on Friday 31 May and 5pm on Wednesday 19 June will be included in this issue Wednesday 26 June Deadline (by 5pm) to apply to vote by appointing a proxy Wednesday 26 June Deadline (by 5pm) to Apply for a Voter Authority Certificate. How to vote

To vote in an election, you must be registered. 

If you've recently turned 18, or moved house, you may not be registered. You can register to vote online.

If you would like to vote in person at a polling station, you will need valid Voter ID.

If you are unable to attend the polling station, you can apply to vote by post. You are also able to apply for a proxy vote.
