New weekly wellbeing walk launches in Sudbury
Led by a Feel Good Suffolk advisor, the walk is open for open for anyone to join and free to take part.
The 45-minute route departs every Friday at 2pm from Kingfisher Leisure Centre and explores the Meadows and Belle Vue Park at a steady pace.
The walk was arranged by Abbeycroft’s Feel Good Suffolk area coordinator for Babergh, in close collaboration with Babergh District Council and Feel Good Suffolk's Wellbeing Walks Coordinator to establish a new, accessible route in Sudbury with the aim to create a simple, social way for residents to be active close to home.
Wellbeing walks are a simple way to boost health and mood. Regular brisk walking improves heart health, strengthens muscles and bones, helps with weight management, and reduces the risk of conditions such as type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.
Time in green spaces reduces stress and anxiety, lifts mood, and supports better sleep — and walking together adds social connection and routine. Short, guided routes at a steady pace also make it easier and safer to start or return to activity after illness, injury, or a long break.
Cllr Laura Smith, Babergh District Council’s Cabinet Member for Thriving Communities, said:
Not only are guided wellbeing walks a great way to get out and be active, but they’re also a fantastic way to meet new people and socialise.”
Matt Hickey, Active Wellbeing Assistant Director at Abbeycroft, said:
