How to pay your rent
As a Council tenant, your rent is due every Monday. There are several different ways you can pay your rent and service charges.
You are able to pay your rent weekly, every two weeks or monthly. Currently we are only able to offer Monthly direct debits. Our 2024/25 rent payment calendar provides you with the dates that rent is due every week.
The amount of rent you pay will depend on the size of your home, its location and any local services.
We review the rent we charge our tenants every April. If we decide to change the amount, we will let you know in advance.
If you receive Universal Credit, it is your responsibility to notify them of any changes to your rent.
For more information, please visit our Rent and other charges webpage.
Set up a Direct Debit
The easiest way to pay your rent is via a monthly Direct Debit. When new tenants sign a tenancy agreement with us, we expect that you will pay rent by Direct Debit.
If you prefer, you can download our Manage your rent payments with Direct Debit (PDF form) and send it to us, once completed. The form includes the address you will need to send it to.
If there are any payment changes, we will give you at least two weeks' notice. This is so you are always aware of how much money we will take from your account.

You can pay your rent online, securely. This option is available to you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Help with paying your rent
If you can't pay your rent, you need to contact us as soon as possible.
We may be able to:
- provide you with advice about money or debt management, via our Tenancy Support team
- help you claim any benefits that you may be entitled to
- set up an affordable repayment plan for you
Please remember that we could take legal action against you, if you do not pay your rent. You may lose your home.
If you are in a joint tenancy, you are each responsible for any payments that have been missed. If you leave the property, we can still claim any rent owed from you, whilst your name is on the tenancy agreement.
