Festive fun for children and peace of mind for parents this Christmas

05/12/24
Parents can relax knowing their children are having some festive fun as the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme returns to Babergh and Mid Suffolk this Christmas.

Activities on the schedule include arts and crafts, football and everything in between, giving every child something to enjoy during the school holidays. Sessions for the whole family are also taking places, such as cooking in the park classes and family swim sessions.

Activities are running from Saturday, 21 December to Sunday, 5 January as part of the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, coordinated by Suffolk County Council and delivered locally by Babergh and Mid Suffolk Districts Councils and partners.

Free places are reserved for those who receive free school meals or those otherwise in need, but most sessions are available to be booked for a small fee. Activities can be booked using the Eequ platform.

Cllr Andy Mellen, leader of Mid Suffolk District Council, said:

“Christmas is a magical time for many, but we know that it also brings its own challenges, particularly when it comes to keeping the little ones entertained while their parents work.

“If you are looking for something fun for your children during those awkward workdays around Christmas and New Year, please do take a look at what activities are happening in your area.”

Cllr Laura Smith, cabinet member for thriving communities at Babergh District Council, said:

“Thanks as always to our partners across Babergh who help to make this impressive programme happen.

“Not only does HAF help to ease pressure on families, but it gives children the opportunity to try something new while making memories and forging friendships. I hope it brings joy to many families this Christmas.”
