The council has submitted a planning application for a new cafe and toilet block in Belle Vue Park

Babergh District Council has submitted a planning application for a new modular build café and toilet block in Sudbury’s Belle Vue Park – offering visitors modern and fully accessible facilities.

Proposals include replacing the existing 1930s toilet block, now in poor condition, with a more sustainable modular building, housing a community café and toilets.

The plans also include Changing Place facilities – accessible toilets to meet the needs of children and adults with disabilities, who may need more space for equipment or carer support.

The café would accommodate up to 50 people and include outdoor seating areas and proposals also include improving security and supervision of the park via the café, and its surrounding areas, in a bid to combat anti-social behaviour in the area.

Funding was approved for the project, pending planning permission, in September and includes up to £105,000 to be used from the existing budget for works at Belle Vue, and £45,000 coming from the Government’s ‘Changing Place’ grant. The remainder of the costs will use the proceeds from the sale of Belle Vue House in May.

Derek Davis, Babergh District Council cabinet member for economic growth, said: “The council is committed to supporting the regeneration of Sudbury town centre and investing in the future of Belle Vue Park.  Consultation on these plans is now open and I urge residents to have their say.”
