Conservation area appraisals
Before a conservation area can be officially designated, it will need to receive a character appraisal. This appraisal will define the special interest of its respective area, and describes the contribution made by the different features of its character and appearance.
The appraisal will then serve as a material consideration in planning decisions which affect the area.
In our district, we have adopted 27 conservation area appraisals as non-statutory supplementary planning guidance.
