Community Litter Picks

Main Panel Title

Across the districts, more than 100 community groups and over 100 individual residents regularly take part in litter picking. These activities may be seasonal, organised weekly, or carried out informally when volunteers are able.

The Councils are keen to support these litter picks. We can gift equipment to be shared with neighbouring groups, provide bags and arrange for the collected waste to be removed the following week. If you’re interested in joining a group litter pick, your town or parish clerk is a good first point of contact. If you prefer to litter pick independently, let us know and we will ensure you have the appropriate equipment and support.

While we value the time and commitment of volunteers, your safety is our highest priority. Litter picking can be extremely dangerous near busy or high‑speed roads. Fast‑moving traffic, limited visibility, narrow verges, and unexpected driver behaviour make major roads unsafe for volunteer activity.

For this reason, individuals and groups must not litter pick on or near major roads, dual carriageways, or any location where vehicles present a risk to personal safety.

When you contact us to express interest, we will provide clear safety guidance to ensure all litter‑picking activities are carried out safely and responsibly.
