Benefit Cap 

Benefit Capped Households

When: August-October 2026 

We have sent a letter to residents who may be subject to the ‘Benefit Cap.’ The benefit cap is a limit on the total amount of benefits you can get. If a household’s benefits go above this limit, payments are reduced.  

However, some households may not be aware that they meet criteria for the benefit cap to be removed and are missing out on this income.   

Residents have been given the opportunity to opt out of receiving a phone call from Citizens Advice. If they do not opt out, Citizens Advice will offer them free, confidential and impartial advice to check whether they are exempt from the benefit cap and if they are eligible for any other support.
