Babergh District Council partners with EEZYBIKE to launch new e-bikes in Lavenham
Residents and visitors in Lavenham can now hire EEZYBIKEs that are stored in an EEZYPOD in the Cock Inn car park, off Church Street.
Lavenham, a popular tourist destination, is one of England's best-preserved medieval villages with over three hundred listed buildings.
The town is a perfect base to explore the beautiful Suffolk countryside more sustainably.
The e-bike rental scheme aligns with the council’s commitment to promoting active travel, reducing carbon emissions and enhancing the health and wellbeing of residents and visitors.
The pod, brought to life thanks to the Babergh sustainable travel working group, comes at an opportune time amidst the buzz following the Lloyd’s Tour of Britain Men race passing through several locations in Suffolk this month – inspiring people to cycle.
It also follows successful EEZYBIKE pod trials launched in Sudbury, next to the Kingfisher Leisure Centre and at Needham Lake in Suffolk.
The bikes have proved popular, with the response from the community over the past year being overwhelmingly positive.
Riders have praised the e-bike initiative’s convenience, ease of use, and environmental benefits with consistent 5-star ratings on TripAdvisor, who has since awarded EEZYBIKE a Traveller’s Award.
These e-bikes, alongside a solar charged e-pod provide a seamless and convenient riding experience.
At Lavenham, riders can simply book their chosen time and date online, then receive a unique code that they enter into the keypad on the arm of the pod, at their booked times.
“We are delighted to be helping Babergh District Council implement its vision for active travel and sustainable travel.
"E-bikes can offer genuine alternatives to driving and offer an amazing opportunity to improve wellness and have some fun in the fresh air.
"Our e-bike rental scheme gives the community an affordable opportunity to try out an e-bike - with the council subsidising the price to £10 for four hours or £18 for a full day.”
“Following a successful launch of an e-bike rental pod in Sudbury, we have now worked with EEZYBIKE to install an additional pod in Lavenham.
“Residents and visitors alike can book a slot online to explore our districts by e-bike at a subsidised rate – without the upfront cost of buying an e-bike.
“This helps to increase environmentally friendly travel and means local independent businesses can benefit from cycling tourism.
“I would encourage everyone to give them a go and experience the health benefits that cycling can bring, along with carbon savings.”
