The Babergh and Mid Suffolk building control team is celebrating after receiving a prestigious national award.

On Friday, 19 January, council officers from building control attended the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Awards ceremony.

The event was held at Grosvenor House in London, where our team claimed the Best Residential Conversion to a Single New Home honour.

At the ceremony, the team’s work at Black Pheasant Barn was recognised as the best of the best in England and Wales, with their achievement acknowledged in front of a 900-strong crowd of fellow industry professionals.

Black Pheasant Barn can be found on the outskirts of Sudbury and was described by the LABC judges as “an impressive, modern and environmentally conscious Class Q barn conversion delivered on a tight budget and under tight timelines”.

The project was also labelled “an excellent example of what can be achieved when maintaining the fabric of a disused agricultural building.”

Paul Hughes, Building Control Corporate Manager, said:

“We are all proud to be associated with such a fantastic development and honoured to be a part of this award in what is truly a team effort.

“It is fully deserved recognition for all the hard work everyone has put in and is demonstrative of the positive and constructive approach the team takes.”
