£230,000 awarded to community projects across the districts
A new sports pavilion for Hadleigh and improved facilities for Claydon Football Club are among the community projects to receive a £230k boost this week from Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils.
The councils awarded the funding to village groups and town and parish councils that are delivering six projects across the districts, as part of their commitment to residents’ wellbeing and ensuring communities have access to local facilities.
The projects being supported in Babergh are:
• Hadleigh Town Council – building of a new Layham Road sports pavilion - £108,491.16.
• Long Melford Parish Council – new play area equipment and resurfacing at Cordell Place play area - £12,942.08.
The projects receiving support in Mid Suffolk are:
• Claydon Football Club – changing room and toilet block refurbishment - £70,368.
• Palgrave and District Community Centre – access improvements - £15,000.
• Battisford Village Hall – village hall improvement project for new insulation, replacement windows and doors - £13,282.38.
• Rickinghall Village Trust – replacement roof lights, solar panel and battery installation - £10,559.81.
The money comes from a combination of the councils’ community grants, plus section 106 funding – money generated by developments across the districts that can be used for social infrastructure improvements, such as village halls, sports facilities and play areas.
Cllr Deborah Saw, Babergh cabinet member for people and place, said:
“We want our residents, whatever their age, to be able to access facilities that improve their health and sense of wellbeing.”
Cllr Tim Weller, Mid Suffolk cabinet member for environment, culture and wellbeing, said:
